Ultrasound Imaging Laboratory
This lab is equipped with advanced ultrasound imaging systems, namely ultrasound strain imaging, shear wave imaging and ultrafast ultrasound imaging platform. Built upon these novel ultrasound imaging platforms, the lab focuses on investigation of the kinematics, mechanical properties, and function of soft tissues, with a current major focus on cardiovascular disease and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Location: Room 206, Chow Yei Ching Building, Main Campus
Teacher-in-charge: Dr. Wei-Ning Lee

Tissue Engineering Laboratory
The lab includes facilities dedicated for laser biofabrication, cell culture; studying how mechanical environments influence cellular events. Using an integrated approach and applying various technologies developed in this lab including microencapsulation, photochemical crosslinking and micropipette-based mechanical loading, we are developing functional replacements for tissues such as cartilage, bone, intervertebral disc, tendon and ligament.
Location: Rooms 205 & 209, Haking Wong Building, Main Campus
Teacher-in-charge: Prof. Barbara Chan

Biomedical Imaging and Signal Processing (BISP) – 7T MRI Laboratory
The central equipment in the BISP lab is a 7T PharmaScan, a high-field NMR imaging system. This equipment offers the most advanced capabilities to study soft tissue structures and functions in rodents. The system is tailored for microscopic, spectroscopic, water diffusion, dynamic cardiac, hemodynamic, a warm bore, and functional imaging.
Location: LB1002-3-4 &1037 , 10/F., Laboratory Block, LKS Faculty of Medicine, Sassoon Road Campus
Teacher-in-charge: Prof. Ed Wu

Orthopaedics Research Centre (The Biomechanics Laboratory & The Biomaterials Laboratory)
This lab develops biomaterials for drug and cell delivery, and supply scaffolds for tissue regeneration and engineering. The full range of mechanical testing can be performed for all regions of the human body (e.g. spine, hip and finger), following ASTM or ISO, all types of animals (e.g. goat, rabbit and mouse), as well as implants, protheses and biomaterials.
Location: L9-10, Laboratory Block, Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, LKS Faculty of Medicine Building, Sassoon Road Campus
Teacher-in-charge: Prof. William Lu
