New genetic engineering tools for better therapy
Combining specific drugs for treating diseases could result in a better therapeutic efficacy. However, identifying the effective ones using existing methods are costly to explore among the vast number of possible drug combinations.
The team led by our BME teacher, Dr Alan Wong, who is also Assistant Professor of School of Biomedical Sciences and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of HKU, engineers new toolkits for high-throughput CRISPR screening, which greatly accelerate the identification of effective combination therapy including those for ovarian cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
