It's said all along that in every single measurable way Galaxies are better. As a phone it is much better, as pointed out by you guys: "more open-source", "better maps", "jam packed with functions"...seems that you agree then:)

It's a better 'phone', but is it actually a better 'thing'? These are things that tech geeks neglect. The pedigree of a product, not just a celebration of numbers. You just don't get these kinda things from a company that makes phones for profit making. I reckon if I ask you right now who the CEO of Samsung is, you'd have Google it to find out. But Apple? Everyone knows about Jobs.

Who knows? Perhaps we'll see somebody interesting from Samsung some day, but till then.

The whole philosophy behind Android is to be open sourced and therefore highly customizable. You get to choose from a wide selection of phones jam-packed with functions that you get to choose those that you want and those that you don't want. At the end of the day, you get to create your own user experience limited by technological constraints. If a person can't take out his huge Samsung phone from his pocket, maybe he enjoys watching videos on the bus and playing games on a bigger screen. That's what it was designed for, that's what he paid for, and that's the user experience he's enjoying. The far simpler argument would be to tell him to buy pants with bigger pockets.

On the other hand, Apple products tend to have a standardized experience that they can therefore optimize to almost "perfection". Some may say it's better that way, but I prefer the freedom of a wider array of products and the freedom of customizing what I own. I agree it's a premature conclusion.

The design philosophy can be mimicked. The general trend is to go minimalist and funcionalist. Apple was just a bit ahead and not even anymore now.
I just don't think Apple is a good innovator anymore. And their past standard for delivering the best user experience is compromised when they decided to move away from google services and give us a subpar default map experience.

Jumping to conclusion too easy, there is so much more to compare to make such a point.
The reason iphone makes things that work perfectly is because of its end-to-end control of hardware, OS, content delivery and customer support. But on the other hand, there is an open world where a korean smartphone carrying open-source Android OS with applications contributed by someone who does it for free. And we still don't know which one will have more impact to our history.

Also, how about Nexus phone?
